BIOGRAPHY
Berlin based Croatian Australian soprano Joanna Norman is a graduate of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied with Wilma MacDougall. While studying at the Royal Conservatoire, Joanna performed the roles of Despina, Così fan tutte, Poppea, Agrippina and Adele, Die Fledermaus. Other roles performed include Belinda, Dido and Aeneas, Eurydice, Orphée ed Eurydice, Bridesmaid, Le nozze di Figaro, Tytania, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Euridice, Orfeo ed Euridice, and Adina, L’elisir d’amore. Joanna was winner of the Vocal Championship at the North Perth Music Festival, a finalist in the Fremantle Open Operatic Aria Competition, a Semi-Finalist in the Australian Singing Competition, and a Quarter Finalist in the Belvedere Singing Competition. Roles with Buxton Festival Opera include Euridice (cover) in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Lucia (cover), Lucia di Lammermoor, and Camille and Le Petite Chiffoniere in Charpentier’s Louise. Joanna has appeared as the Cockerel, the Jay and Mrs Paskova, The Cunning Little Vixen with British Youth Opera and as Gretel, Hansel and Gretel at the St Magnus International Festival. Recent appearances include Olympia, Tales of Hoffmann with the Berlin Opera Group, Mademoiselle Silberklang, Der Schauspieldirektor at the Palais Lichtenburg Berlin, in the United Kingdom as Morgana, Alcina at the Two Moors Festival, Musetta, La bohème in Bucharest and as Norina, Don Pasquale with Sequenda Opera Luxembourg.
A keen concert singer, Joanna’s repertoire includes Schubert’s Mass in C, Handel’s Messiah, Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn’s Theresienmesse, Faurè's Requiem, Karl Jenkins' Gloria, and Poulenc’s Gloria.
